Oberon reveals its best kept secret...
one of the largest private gardens in the world
Mayfield Garden is one of the largest privately owned cool climate gardens in the world and this spring and autumn you will have the chance to see it.
It is located within a 5000 acre working farm near Oberon in the Central West Tablelands of New South Wales.
Initially, work on Mayfield Garden was quite modest in scale but as tends to happen with gardens, it grew...and grew...and grew. Still very much a work in progress, there is nonetheless a maze, an oak forest, a walled potager, an 80 metre cascade that tumbles down the hillside, extensive parterre gardens...you really have to see it to believe it.
36 acres have now been set aside next to the existing garden and we have embarked on a whole new phase of the garden’s evolution that will include a garden shop and nursery, a design centre, a children’s discovery centre and cafe.
After four years of construction the heart of this exciting new project is about to be revealed – a 6 acre water garden inspired by Longstock Park Water Garden in England. The water garden – with its winding paths, waterfalls, mass plantings and gold tipped obelisk – will be the centrepiece of future developments at Mayfield Garden and a major tourism drawcard for the region.
What makes our spring and autumn open weekends so special is that you will have the opportunity to wander through the entire garden which has rarely been opened in the past.
Come and enjoy the Mayfield Garden journey.
